Suspension
The suspension of a BMW is one of the (many) things that really set these cars apart from the rest on the road. It is the sharpness and taughtness of the early cars that first enamored us. The 2002 didn’t wallow like a 68 Caprice, for example, and it was a revelation.
As we’ve repeatedly stated, that doesn’t mean that they can’t be improved without ruining their character.
Stiffer and lower shocks and springs reduce body roll and permit higher cornering limits. Fatter, read thicker and stiffer, Sway Bars also tie the lower elements of the suspension together, allowing for a flatter cornering attitude. Strut bars at the tops of the strut towers complete the box and transfer cornering loads to the other side, which also allows for higher cornering speeds.
The brands that we prefer include Bilstein, H & R, Ground Control, Dinan, Eibach, Koni, Ireland Engineering, Mason Engineering, and others.
Let us know how you drive and what you’d like your car to do and we can jointly come up with a solution.
