BMW Service
Modern BMWs are significantly more reliable than some of our cherished older models, but they still need tender loving care through regular maintenance and service.
Regular Maintenance serves two important functions:
- Increasing the life of your BMW
- Break-Down Prevention
BMW’s published maintenance guidelines have kept many of their cars on the road for decades. At times, their diligence has facilitated their recommended service intervals to change but only after enough negative experiences have been documented.
At Pacific Motorsports we advocate a conservative approach and take the initiative to fill in some of the gaps in BMWs maintenance schedule.
We do this during our regular inspections:
- Inspecting more items than specified by BMW
- Additional services such as fuel filter replacement (Service Two).
One of the important benefits of BMWs regular maintenance regime is the frequent inspection of the vehicle. Approximately every 15,000 miles the major components (brakes and suspension) are inspected for wear and condition.
Oil Service
For vehicles that use conventional oil we recommend 3,000 miles as the oil change interval. We use Valvoline MaxLife for this purpose, which is a semi-synthetic blend with additives for higher mileage engines. It is a quality lubricant with that we have had good experience with for a number of years.
Newer vehicles that specify synthetic oil we use Redline Oil and recommend that it be changed every 5,000 miles. Redline is 100% synthetic, (not a petroleum product like Mobil 1 and other brands) and is used by the vast majority of racers. We believe it to be the best, which is why we recommend you use it.
Service One
Every 15,000 miles is the Inspection or Service One. This includes an oil service and the inspection of the major components, particularly those involved with safety such as brakes and suspension.
Service Two
Every 30,000 miles is the Inspection or Service Two. This encompasses everything in the Service One and adds a tune up, filter changes (including the fuel filter, that the dealer doesn’t include and because we’re conservative and very maintenance-oriented, lubrications and adjustments.
